Ternium’s Downstream Facilities in its Pesquería Industrial Center in Mexico Ternium is expanding its downstream lines at the Pesquería Industrial Center with the aim of broadening its high-end steel product capabilities for industrial customer requirements.
Following the successful start-up of a new hot-rolling mill in mid-2021, Ternium is building new downstream facilities to better serve its customers in the automotive, renewable energy and home appliance industries, as well as in the construction and agricultural sectors. With the expansion of the Pesquería facility’s advanced-high-strength and ultra-high-strength steels production capabilities, this initiative will support the company’s leading position as a steel supplier in Mexico.
The program consists of a push-pull pickling line with annual capacity of 550 thousand tons and new finishing lines, which started up during fourth quarter 2024. Additionally, the program includes a new cold rolling mill and a hot-dip galvanizing line, with annual capacity of 1.6 million tons and 600 thousand tons, respectively, expected to begin operations by the end of 2025.
“These new initiatives are consistent with our longstanding strategy to continuously optimize our industrial system in order to capture future market opportunities,” said Ternium CEO Máximo Vedoya. “We believe this new investment program will strengthen Ternium’s competitive positioning, enable us to replace imports in the Mexican market and better serve our customers with a broader and more technologically advanced product portfolio.”
Ternium’s PESQUERÍA Industrial Center
The company´s greenfield project in Pesquería started in 2013 with the inauguration of the cold-rolling and galvanizing facilities that strengthened our positioning in the high-end market sector and enabled us to continue displacing imports in key industrial segments like the automotive sector. After that, in 2019, we started up new hot-dipped galvanizing and painting lines, expanding our product range for industrial markets with the most advanced painting technology in Mexico. With the completion of the new hot rolling mill in 2021, the Pesquería industrial Center has an annual production capacity of 4.4 million tons of hot-rolled products, 1.7 million tons of cold-rolled products, 900,000 tons of hot-dipped galvanized products and 165,000 tons of pre-painted products.
Also in 2021, Ternium opened a new research and development center in Pesquería (Ternium Lab). This new facility incorporated new equipment and capabilities to test steel products performance for automotive, home appliance and other industrial customers. The new research and development center enabled Ternium to speed up the development and certification of new high-end steel products to be produced in this industrial center. Ternium Lab features physical modeling, simulation of industrial processes, robotized testing, and full-scale welding processes and advanced characterization.
